Just tell him that Santa isn't a person, Santa represents the spirit of giving.

We do it MY way in MY house. Tonight, tomorrow, the next day; depends on how I feel.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

For me, it's always been the way KC does it. Family opens presents to/from each other on Christmas Eve, then wake up to Santa in the morning, gifts unwrapped and on display. Santa always brings the biggest gift(s) so the best is saved for last.

My mom's parents, when we celebrated with them, it was Christmas Eve. Then we'd celebrate with my dad's parents on Christmas morning.

If it was just our family, everything Christmas morning.

Now, with me and the wife, we let the kids open an item or two from "wayward" relatives and the bulk of everything + Santa Christmas morning.
