Stay away from the Leinenkugel's Fireside Nut Brown. It says "with natural flavor" on the bottle. I guess it's natural feces.

I love that stuff! I'm no beer snob by any means, but I'll buy that stuff when I run across it. One of my customers was having a German themed party, and they were serving it there...that was the first time that I'd ever even heard of it. (07).

Blue moon is a filtered wheat. Shiner Hefe is anything but. I'm almost certain that Shiner's Hefe is an 'ale' simply in name only because of that draconian BS law Texas has (that was just recently repealed, thank God)

Blue Moon is a Witbier.....it's unfiltered.

LOL! "Natural" doesn't always mean "better".

Paulaner, Franziskaner, and Widmer are my favorite Hef's. Shiner Hef isn't bad for what it is though.

Love me some Widmer! If you're ever in Austin at a bar that has Live Oak Hefe, try it. Best. Hefe. Ever.

I'm not sure if there are places in DFW that serve Live Oak, I'm new to the area.

I got hooked when I used to spend a week a month in Tualatin, OR. Back when they were a true microbrewery, and you couldnt find it at bars or beer stores here. Now you can get Widmer nearly anywhere.

I'll be in Austin next weekend, I'll ask around if we go out.

Most of Shiner's beers are pretty mediocre IMO. For hefes I like Weihenstephaner for German or Pyramid for American.

Franziskaner is arguably the best beer on earth

I have yet to have any Shiner other than the Bock that I would drink a second time. Shinerbock is my go to just feel like having a beer, beer, but the rest of the stuff they make is pretty awful.

I liked it the first time i had it. Many people seem to disagree with it.

that shit sucks. nowhere near what a German hefeweizen OR american Hefeweizen should taste like.

it's also an ale because of the way it's fermented. Ale and lager have different fermentation styles, one with the yeast on the bottom of the tank and the other with it on the top.

blue moon is not filtered. it is a belgian style wheat beer. it's a different style from the german hefeweizen, which Shiner Hefeweizen is supposed to be.

Shiner Hefeweizen should be stuck more along the category of an american hefeweizen since it has that more citrusy bland flavor to it. Most german hefeweizens have notes of banana and clove.

I typed all this drunk.. sorry for errors.
