I'm no lawyer, but iirc anything from Government class, if they so much as attempted to bring charges based on anything they find, it would be inadmissible as evidence. That's not saying those persons wouldn't be marked for future scrutiny, though. It would suck, but they AGREED to the terms that the house could be entered at any time. And well, they should be a little smarter with their illegal vices, given the fact that they knowingly signed a statement agreeing to those terms!

I have zero problem with the gas company coming in as it has been said, it's in the contract. Where I have an issue is the article stated the POLICE went and got a locksmith and did it. Not the gas company. The police. Gas company wants to come check on their stuff or turn stuff off due to a contract, fine. The police getting a locksmith and entering your home without permission is a whole nother cat.

WESTERLY, R.I. -- About 1,600 natural gas customers, possibly more, will be without gas for at least a couple of days while crews, accompanied by police and locksmiths, shut off every meter, according to National Grid.
Reports of extremely low pressure started Wednesday morning, said National Grid spokesman David Graves. The affected area is defined by Canal and Main streets, Wells and Oak streets, he said.
Crews plan to knock on doors throughout the night to warn customers that their meters must be turned off. If no one is inside, police and a locksmith will help technicians get inside.
Crews will have to return later to relight pilot lights

WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI/AP) - National Grid says crews are going to door-to-door in Westerly to close off the natural gas meters of 1,600 customers as it works on a distribution problem.

Utility spokesman David Graves says crews worked through the night and had secured about 800 meters by about 7 a.m., and the company might be able to start restoring service Thursday night, with the problem solved by Saturday.

Main Street and Canal Street are among the areas affected. Not only are those streets filled with homeowners, but businesses are also impacted by the issue.

"It’s going to be devastating to be without heat or power for this holiday season. It’s our crunch, time," said Molly Silva, a business owner.

If no one is home at the time, police officers along with a locksmith are entering homes to shut the valves off.

"Thank God no snow, no frost, no freezing temperatures yet. We just hope for the best. Hopefully we can get some things going for Christmas. I have a meal to prepare, hopefully we are good to go by then," said Westerly resident Mallory Carpenter.

After National Grid has checked each affected home, and the problem has been resolved, they will return to each home and business to turn the meters back on.

So the gas companies are training and certifying officers to handle this type of thing and unleashing them in the middle of an emergency? Good to know. Sometimes writers suck and you have to read more than just one sentence in an article to understand what is going on. I guess if you just take everything at 100% face value, that is what you would get from it.
