  • GM warranty work question

I've never had a car with a dealership warranty so please take it easy on me.

I've got a chevy truck with the bumper to bumper 100,000 mile extended warranty. It just turned 30,000 miles.

Its been pulling to the passenger side slightly and today I noticed that the inside of my drivers side tire is showing near bald.

If I bought the tire would the dealership do the alignment? Or would it all be on me?

    Thanks

What year is your car and how long does the factory warranty go?

Did you buy the GMPP extended service contract or somebody elses? (In other words what is the name of the contract?

At your mileage , alignment is not covered. But unless you have hit anything, it would more than likely be a bad tire and not the alignment. You don't want to align your front end to a bad tire.

most of the time you need to take it in within 10k for warranty to cover something like that.

its an 09, the factory warranty was to 30,000 miles which it just hit. I bought the extended service contract from Jupiter Chevrolet. I dont remember if it says GMPP extended service or it said something like premier something or another.

That is like asking for a oil change under the factory warranty. Unles something mechanically broke causing the alignment to become off... it won't be covered.

with the warranty or with a service contract? warranty and service are two different things.

                warranty covers stuff that breaks
service covers things that wear out (maintenence)

Not true. A warranty and a service contract are different, but namely because legally a warranty must be free and is not cancelable.

Many extended service contracts specifically exclude maintenance items, but they can have additional provisions for things like oil changes, I know my company did at one point.

The 100k extended warranty on my 07 Chevy work truck wouldn't even cover a bad spark plug wire at 60k so good luck. They said that was a maintenance item.

However the original 36k warranty on my corvette covered a new battery so who knows lol

Unfortunately it is probably going to be your responsibility, but I would go ahead and try to get it covered by the factory warranty or the extended service contract. You will likely have better luck with GM getting it covered under factory warranty but either way all they can say is no.

I doubt GM would cover any alignmnets, especially after that many miles.

When we had our Lexus, it came with free alignments.

alignment can be covered in certain instances. at 30k, it is not likely alignment has been an issue from day 1. obviouslythough, that tire wouldve been gone long ago...

#1 GM warranty sucks giant sweaty balls (the main reason I'll never own another one of their junkers) #2 It's pretty standard that alignment, brakes, etc. aren't covered outside of the 12/12.

Yep, anything and everything is covered for 12/12. After that plug wires, filters, belts, clutches, brake pads, rotors and anything else "designed to wear" is excluded.
