It's good to read stuff like this. We adopted a family at work this year, but I may toss around the idea of pooling money for next year and then heading out the week before Christmas to pay off some layaway bills.

Another site I'm on did this this year. I was told, but I'm not 100% that yesterday was the last day for people to pay off their layaway at Wal-Mart. I paid yesterday through Wal-Mart without a glitch, but some Wal-Mart stores would only accept people to put it on a gift card to give to the family. I'm not sure what other stores have layaway, but it is sure worth a shot!

Correct yesterday was the last day at Wally World
In order to participate, each item must have a price of $15 or more, customers must have a total minimum layaway purchase of $50, make a 10% down payment on the total purchase, and pay a one-time non-refundable $5 service fee. Items put on layaway must be paid in full and picked up on or before Dec. 16. There is a $10 cancellation fee for any orders not picked up by that date or cancelled by the customer. Cancellation fees and service fees may vary by state. Contract wireless phones are not eligible for the layaway program.
