Uh, that's what dipsticks are for. When it looks a little dirty, change it. Most of the time I only change mine 2-3 times a year with normal driving. Of course I've never paid to have my oil changed, so I could'nt care less what happens to the quick change businesses that profit off laziness. Let them all close, and maybe everyone will learn how to turn one bolt, and unscrew/screw a filter.

I change the oil in the tow trucks every 3k miles only because of the abuse and heavy loads the motors see on a daily basis. I also drain and fill the transmission every 2nd or 3rd oil change depending on outside temps.

Otherwise with my daily i run synthetic and change it every 5-6k miles. On the bike though I've been known to change the oil at 2.5k miles after a hard trip with lots of high revs, etc.

Most cars have I intelligent oil monitoring systems that use real data to determine if you need an oil change. I don't know that it will ever read less than 5K...usually closer to 10K

Lol here you go again...you have no intelligent response or argument so you try to "win" by calling people stupid. This will not cut lube shops profits in half. Are you really dumb enough to think that their only business is oil changes?

Not sure why it is so bad that California is advising people to follow their manufacturers suggestions for oil changes.

As far as the Lube shops losing revenue, that just means they need to raise the price of an oil change.

I run mobile 1 and change it every 10k.
Never had a problem and the oil always looks fine when changed

What harm does it do to the economy to change your oil every 3k miles?

Trust the fact that the money will be spent elsewhere...you know this for a fact.

Y'all are making something of nothing...

Lol...and surprisingly you have no point again. Dude you're a joke.

I'll spell it out. Your economic and tax Collections assessment was wrong. Very wrong. Lube shops will not lose half their business...and the money will be spent elsewhere.

And when did those start being implemented? 2003ish? I honestly don't know.

There's got to be ton of cars on the roads that don't contain them. Tons of people don't use synthetics. Tons of people also use the cheapest oil and filters they can get.

Sure, oil and filter technology has progressed from 30 years ago, but I think you're discounting the amount of less than intelligent people out there. How many people drive shitboxes, 30 yr old cars, etc.

I don't see where the govt gets off intervening and affecting small business revenue. I also think liability is an issue. I think the manufacturers should push it, not the govt. 3k mile intervals isn't hurting anyone.

As for my intelligent response, my first post on the subject was just that.

By that logic, why don't we just all have our oil changed at 1,000 miles?

Shit we have trucks in our fleet with 100k on a change. Oil don't wear out it get dirty and looses its additive's. We use OPS filter system and take a sample every few months and just add make up oil when low. Cars are putting better filters on now than what was in the past.

You're ignoring the point. Right now, if you want to change your oil at 7,500, or 10k you can. And, it's cheaper for you to do that. If you want to change your oil at 3k you can, and it's cheaper. If this went into law, if you wanted to change your oil at 7,500 or 10k it would be more expensive. And if you wanted to change your oil at 3k you couldn't. The proposed mandate would take freedoms, make life more expensive, lose jobs, and cause other states to pay for it. I don't support the idea.
