No more 3,000mi oil changes says California.

5000 miles with base oil, or 7500 with synthetic under typical driving conditions. Anyone that recommends more than that is full of shit IMO. When you start getting into older cars where the rings are letting more and more unburned gas into the oil, that number starts taking an nose dive. I don't see how they are "wasting" the oil since it all goes back to recycling centers anyway.

Well, think of it this way, if the average owner gets an oil change every 3,000 miles, and they want to change it to 7,500... that will essentially cut every lube shop's business in half. Not to mention the cascade effect and drop in oil consumption. This is why California's business growth has been negative and dropping exponentially for 5 years in a row. And guess what? We (the responsible states) are bailing them out."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

On a side note. The railroad stopped doing scheduled oil changes on their locomotives 3 years ago. They heavily filter the oil and run oil analysis' every so many months. When they started this I thought it was all bs and them just trying to save a buck on oil changes, but maybe they are right.
Then about 2 weeks ago I blew one up lol. We where rolling along at about 50mph when it sounded like a shotgun went off inside the cab. Lost all power and when I looked back all I saw was oil coming out the doors and exhaust. We come to a stop and when I get her opened up there was a huge hole in side of the block and crank case along with several small fires. I buzzed up train management to tell them in all their wisdom we were dead in the water. Even though we had 3 engines the other two wouldn't start because one was out of fuel and the other had dead batteries. They asked what the problem was and being sarcastic I told them the engine was out of oil and to send a tow truck. They then asked if I came to the conclusion of the engine being out of oil by looking at the dipstick. I just laughed and said this isn't your minivan these things don't have dipsticks and told them I could tell it was out of oil because I could see daylight in the bottom of the crankcase. There was a long silence and then I was asked what a crankcase was. I lost it at this point and just said we ain't moving until someone brings us a another locomotive. Sat there for 8hrs lol. Got to love management.
