I had that perfected when I was in high school and visited "mexico" every weekend. It always starts as checking to make sure all the nice motorists around you are not trying to do anything silly, like enforce the law.

The only cars I can routinely identify by tail lights is Mustangs and classic Fords that had round lenses.
