Usually not. It probably falls under the harassment statute.

The threats have to be very specific, a general "im gonna get you" doesnt matter, even somewhat worse wont be even noted by police, they need to say specifically how they are going to hurt you for them to take it seriously. Been there, done that, just make sure you keep record of what happens(if text) or record the calls, so if anything happens and you're forced to defend yourself, hopefully theres no question.(Keep it for your defense attorney though)
