At your age you probably need to slow down

Damn man that sucks. Look at the bright side though...it could have always been worse. Thats why I ride pretty tamely on my DRZ.

And yeah, getting older blows. Body doesn't heal like it used to.
I dislocated my shoulder about 4-5 times from 16 to 21 and still, a good 14 years since the last time, do not trust throwing a ball (football or baseball) at full strength. I can give it about 75% but that's all I feel safe doing. And that's after I have warmed up and it will be sore afterwards. I never saw a doctor about it or "rehab'd" it though.

Damn, Dave....Sorry to hear that buddy. I'd like to offer up the proverbial it could have been worse sentiment, but I'm sure that doesn't assuage your pain. Good luck on a speedy recovery.

I herniated a L5/S1 disc being overzealous with a Halligan bar during an extrication. Spent a long time in PT and should have opted for the endoscopic discectomy. Periodic sciatica is a bitch, but there is at least a potential solution on the table. Anything that alters your routine is difficult to adjust to.

That sucks Dave, I bet that shit hurt!! I've been there, so I feel your pain. I'm still riding with two very damaged knees. One needs total knee replacement now, and the other just ACL replacement. For now I just ride with Asterisks and take it easy. That sucks that you'll be off the bike for so long though. ACL surgery takes like 9 months to rehabilitate, right?

Question. It's always been my understanding that a Dr. cannot prescribe narcotics for themselves, but what can you prescribe for yourself outside of that? Is it considered unethical to do so...Period?

And what did you get for pain from whomever treated you?

I havent been to the ER yet. I wasnt hurting this bad yesterday. I have nothing but motrin which isnt cutting it. I Tx it is illegal to write Rx for anyone that isnt your patient with a verifiable medical record. The TMB is a bitch to deal with and will suspend a physicians license if he/she does it. Not worth the risk.
This is my first real crash since 2004 when I broke my left clavicle 3 times. Dr Sanders here in Houston can have me back on the bike in 3mos.

                          Dave,
Do you have an affinity for SEC girls with 1/2 a "T" shirt? Or did you attend my Alma mater?

Did you break your clavicle in 3 places at one time or 3 separate times in the same place?

That's a fast full reconstructive surgery... I was out a full year, but I didn't have insurance and had to pay cash for the surgery. Afterwards I did not have the funds for rehad, so I went 3 times and just did the rest myself. Anyway, good luck!

Post pics of your knee, the burn, the bike, etc

Dave, did you use to practice here in DFW? If so can you recommend a good ortho surgeon for me?

BTW, you can put that $1500 in repairs for your bike towards a nice KTM350
