I believe they're replacing the whole turbo as opposed to rebuilding it but I could be mistaken.
If you don't mind me asking, who do you work for?

I was going to say it's probably due to a lot of full throttle - zero throttle over and over and over and over

Then I remembered the application! LOL

That's exactly, exactly it Cooter. A lot of idle up rev limiter, prolly 2k+ times a day.

when compressor wheels literally explode like that it's usually a combination of overspeed and repeated surge/bark stressing the wheel

                Sounds like UPS/FedEx.

Can someone explain to me why they kill the engine to run up to the house, start it back up in 15 seconds, and then go WOT when pulling away?

That has to be VERY hard on those engines.

Surge/bark, what is that? I've never heard of it.

it's not ideal, but it is what it is...

besides, they'd get arrested for leaving a running vehicle unattended

Low cycle fatigue from highly cyclical operation sucks. The compressor grows ever so slightly at high speeds and quick cycling can cause plastic deformation. It work hardens the wheel and then the tips go kablooey (the ol 'bending a paper clip until it breaks' thing). The only "fix", short of a power derate, is to go to a "machined from solid" part.

                      Here's the result:

That's caused by working an engine like this:

Find someone with a strong chip on a newer 7.3L powestroke that still has a stock compressor wheel on their turbo and you can hear what surge is. Mine did it till I got an X-wheel. My understanding as far as these trucks are concerned is the turbo gets spun past the efficiency of that crappy(quiet design) stock compressor wheel and will cavitate and overspeed making an air chattering surge sound.
