I'm worried about how much of the shrapnel made it into the intercooler, whether or not it's damaged and if they're gonna check/flush it to see.
I believe they're replacing the whole turbo as opposed to rebuilding it but I could be mistaken.

I was going to say it's probably due to a lot of full throttle - zero throttle over and over and over and over
Then I remembered the application! LOL

when compressor wheels literally explode like that it's usually a combination of overspeed and repeated surge/bark stressing the wheel

Can someone explain to me why they kill the engine to run up to the house, start it back up in 15 seconds, and then go WOT when pulling away?
That has to be VERY hard on those engines.

That's caused by working an engine like this:

Find someone with a strong chip on a newer 7.3L powestroke that still has a stock compressor wheel on their turbo and you can hear what surge is. Mine did it till I got an X-wheel. My understanding as far as these trucks are concerned is the turbo gets spun past the efficiency of that crappy(quiet design) stock compressor wheel and will cavitate and overspeed making an air chattering surge sound.1988GT DSS pro bullet 306,pp track heat heads, pp downs box intake, TFS stage II cam, S-trim 13lbs, 503/461
