  • School me on primer...

I have not done any serious bodywork on a car in years but I am finally prepping the Capri for paint. I have it sanded down to the point I want to primer it, but I am not up to date in whats available out there. I am at bare metal, or close to it. There may be some sanding scratches. I don't have much room to work and I don't have a booth or the means to make one. What is a good high build primer I can shoot in a cramped garage? I have read a lot of scary stuff about the isocynates in some paints but didn't know if that was still the case with primer.

So, what you're looking for is a primer on primers?

Just make sure you use a good primer. I have used some that after a couple swipes with the block, it turn to glass.

This isn't going to be a high $$$ paint job in the end. The car isn't worth it. It will remain garaged for the rest of its life when not driven as far as I have control.

I need to learn about the newer paints too and what will be safe for me to work with. I don't have a good place right now to shoot it, but I wanted to get the previous 3 paint jobs removed so I can primer and work on the other body work as I have time.

Look at tcpglobal.com and see what you like there. I'm using the Kustom Shop brand for my truck. A 2K primer/sealer is what I'm using and recommend
