Time goes by fast dosen't it? 70 years already.

Only a few folks left that were actually there. If you ever have the oppurtunity to hear any of them speak about it, pull up a chair and listen to every word. Not going to be able to hear it from that perspective much longer.

I had the absolute honor a few years ago of meeting John Finn, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the attack. What a great man, and quite a character. I was absoutely hanging on his every word. I loved how he tod me that he was too busy shooting to be scared.

I toured the Midway in San Diego earlier this year. There was a Pearl Harbor vet there with a small piece of the Oklahoma on his table that you could pick up and touch.

I was talking to him about being there and mentioned to him that for me it has always been history and I have always known that we won but I can't imagine what it was like to actually be there both during the attack and immediately afterward. He told me at the time they thought the Japanese were going to invade the islands and he didn't get to sleep or take off his uniform for three days. At the time everyone knew that there was no way we could mount much resistance to a Japanese invasion and everyone knew what the Japanese did to prisoners. I bet those guys were scared shitless, I definitely would have been.

I did as well a few years ago. We went to his house and he was up wandering around his junk/yard.... 98 at the time I think he was and still sharp as hell. Knew all his stuff from location to history. He did like the ladies we were with as well. I was surprised at how short he was but an awesome guy and very funny.

                      RIP to all.

I have always heard in the late 60's National Geographic got permission and went into the ship? Some people say the images were on TV? Anyone remember this or know if its true or false. I beleive it was Jacque Cousteau or Ballard that was the photographer?

I know there is a book Descent into Darkness wrote by Edward Raymer one of the divers about the days after the attack having to go find a disarm the remain munitions on board.
