"If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training, you will be a weapon. You will be a minister of death praying for war. But until that day you are pukes. You are the lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even human, fucking beings. You are nothing but unorganized grabastic pieces of amphibian shit! You will not like me. But the more you hate me the more you will learn. I am hard but I am fair. There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on crackers, kikes, wops or greasers. Here you are all equally worthless. And my orders are to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear to serve in my beloved Corps. Do you maggots understand that?"

Infantry tends to have the smartest people in it. Most people I served with, with some exceptions, blew the ASVAB out of the water but wanted to prove something to themselves. We have to know multiple weapons from rifles to TOW ITAS to the Javelin, know how to do repairs to said weapons, understand individual, team and squad tactics and know basics about disarming mines and setting them for max destruction. Most of that is just to graduate basic

The few conversations I've had with them, were more or less like talking with an ape.

Now don't get me wrong, the seem to be able to handle a tank well, I'm just not sure if it's the heat, loud noises or what. They just ain't right.
I think you may have Matt (who was Marine comms) confused with Jimmy (who was an Army Abrams jockey, and will not be pleased).

How long have they been out? I know when guys just get back and trying to work in the civilian world, its a big shock. My best friend was a real ass when he came home. Took him a few months to calm down. We flat told him we didn't want to hang out with him if he was going to start trouble every time we went out. He has since mellowed out.

Anyone who bitches about how a Marine acts should visit Jacksonville, NC sometime. You think some Marines are bad? Try dealing with posers who sport the shirt and haircut, but have absolutely no affiliation with the USMC. Fucking clowns.
One of my closest friends is a MSG and has done several tours to Iraq and Afghanistan as well as being involved in the Somalian conflict. Although he has his quirks, especially about competition he is one of the most loyal people I've ever known.

You will be seeing a lot of this from all branches...With the ongoing conflicts wrapping up and people leaving the Military you will start running into a lot of folks that are damaged....I hate to say that but it is true....

I was a tanker for some time and loved it...I will agree a lot of them are not the smartest....But they can get the job done.....

I would think it to be the exact oposite, who knows. I took the asvab when I was considering it did well and if I couldn't get a pilot seat I was going to do a combat job. I'd hate to be in the armed forces and be a freaking cook or something. I need some action!

Yah, just marines are a bit different. My friend is in the army and he's a bit more relaxed and not so much in your face like my marine buddies.

Yah my friends suffer with some issues, the ones who've seen combat. Its kinda sad at times. My friend recently got back and doesn't feel at home if that makes sense. Feels out of place with I guess us regular people, already volunteered to go back for 9 months.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

That's just it. Who joins the Army to be in the Band? Can you imagine? "Well kids, I served in the military during xyz wars."

                              "Oh? What did you do?"

"I was a horn player for the Army marching band."

                              "Oh."

This. Perfectly understandable. He'll feel at home with other combat vets though. It's something about not knowing where an attack is coming from but knowing someone who's worn the uniform will have your back
