Its a stupid law designed to provide PC to pull a car over like a broken taillight. If it was for some important reason it would be required in ALL states. A lot of states don't require one, such as here in PA. I love not having to have a front plate. Its BS.

I got pulled over by a State Trooper on I35 this morning for no front plate. I was thinking to myself "what did I do wrong" until he told me. I just bought the car 2 months ago and never realized that it was required. I honestly thought that cars this old were exempt. I am getting new plates next week though....

          Been there,done all that...

I received a ticket for no front plate after being the last to leave a crowded parking lot where everyone was meeting up to street race. This happened in Lewisville behind Hooters so I set a court date to see the judge. I brought pictures of my front bumber with the LP attached with double sided tape.

The judge asked me to walk up to his stand and looked me in the eye and said "son if I walk out in to that parking lot, will I see your license plate attached to your front bumper..... I rolled the dice on that one.

You're tripping. The broken twilight provides PC to pull you over.

This is the EXACT reason I've been wanting to make one of these for years!

I haven't had a front plate mounted to any of my cars since I moved here 7yrs ago, but just got pulled over for it for the first time on I20 headed out towards Tyler a few weeks ago. I wasn't speeding, and didn't get a ticket, but after reading some of these posts about people getting pulled over for it in my neighborhood (Flower Mound/Highland Village), I think I'm going to put it on now. My biggest concern is giving them a reason to pull me over after I mighta had a couple of drinks. I'm careful not to drive drunk, but after 2-3 drinks, I'm still always worried about having to blow into a breathalyzer. I think they look like shit, but it's not worth potentially going to jail over.

There's two proponents for the front license plate. LEOs and 3M.

3M provides the reflective coating on license plates.

You asked this question, and I'm sure it was leading to something, so I asked you to elaborate which you refused. Neither of us were around in 1926 now were we?

Logic says that you will run plates on cars that are moving in your direction. You don't have time to run plates as cars are coming at you. Seeing a missing front plate just gives you an opportunity to stop and investigate.

That's a pretty far out hypothetical. What if the crooks remove their plates while committing the crime? What if my neighbor sees the plate but writes it down wrong? What if the plates were stolen from another car?

I'm all for identifying the bad guys but the front plate law is just stupid. You may feel differently because of all the probable cause stops you were able to make when a car or person seemed suspicious.

Cars are identified by the front plates as well. It's an indisputable fact. Where did you get info that you can't ID plates coming at you? That's just dead wrong. Try driving around residential neighborhoods and getting front plates is Hell of a lot easier than turning your head to see the rear one as it drives by. Try it sometime.

Stealing plates is a VERY small occurance. Totally removing them is even less common because you have to get to/from the crime without being noticed. Try taking the plates off your car and see how long it takes you to get stopped.

This Saturday you can spend the day with me "generating revenue". You can go into the heart of Stop 6/Poly with me and see how much money we can make the city. I think you are in for a rude awakening.

We can also tour the Fort Worth Police and Fire memorial and read the stories of the officers/firefighters that have died in the line of duty.

The offer is on the table and the ball is in your court. Let's see what you do.
Well, it's been 3 days and nothing but crickets....

To add insult to injury, honest, hard working people get slapped with up to a $200 fine for not running a front plate they've already paid for. A lot of people can't afford to eat with those kinds of fines. That'll teach them not to run a front plate!

The example you gave has little merit. Because a one in one million occurrence happened, therefor, it justifies the expense and hassle of an extra plate. If that were the case all states would have the same front plate law. But, they don't. The back plate is far more important and, I would guess gets read over 98% of the time before the front plate.

Just how much extra is a front plate? They don't charge you extra for 2.

How about follow the rules and put it on, and you won't have to worry about getting fined. It's that simple. All 3 of my vehicles have front plates attached.

One in a million? You are ignorant of how many times this happens. Do this:
go south on MLK out of downtown FTW and then take N/B 820. Stop on the exit at the top of the bridge, get out and look around. Everytime someone hits that guardrail there is a very high probability of losing a plate. The last wreck I worked out there I collected 3 extra plates.
