Very common occurence over there. There were quite a few of our bombs that were duds. Also time bombs were dropped that the timers failed after impact. Adding to the uxb problem are many bombs were salvoed after the a/c were disabled in combat..
Now, if you really want to read some scary shit, read the following about the WW1 gas shells being stored in Belgium!

In a wood in Houthulst, in Flanders, Belgium, the Belgian army tries to get rid of an enormous depot of toxic gas (musterdgas) from the Great War, the First World War 1914 - 1918

That's what they get for trying to take over Europe and kill all the Jews. Karma is a bitch.

Finding bombs and unexploded ordnace is a common occurrance in Europe.

WW1 still has france a mess. I have a buddy that goes out daily to farms etc collecting explosives. Id bet ww1 is still killing/injuring people today.

Hell it's VERY normal in Korea. While I was there we'd routinely run by unexploded mines that were washed from one location onto the road or a ditch. Then there was the guy who had a UXO that he found and made a coffee table out of it. Evidently, he was playing cards and set it off. We got the alert up at Greaves and were keeping an ear open in case it was RNK

I was in Koblenz this summer on vacation, and it was my first day in Germany. I was jet lagged as hell and I had just arrived at my hotel right on the Rhine River. The woman at reception gave me a flyer that said "all guests must leave hotel between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00 for the excavation of a bomb" (I can probably find a picture of the flyer). She told us that it was unexploded WWII bomb right next to the hotel. They had set up a beer garden for us a block away though, so I had a few even though I would have sold my soul to get some rest.

A local radio station interviewed me to get an American viewpoint on the situation. I told them that this was very unexpected and that I did not know such things were still an issue. Anyways, the bomb got excavated successfully and I was never happier to get to bed.

I just thought it was crazy that they found another bomb in the same place I was at!
