I agree that if your mom doesn't want to pull some grandma duty while shes there it's going to be a let down for you and your wife.
Check out this place. http://www.atlantis.com/default.aspx We are going next year.

I'll check that place out. Everyone is full on aware that we all will have to pull kid duty while vacationing. That was one of my main stipulations of even going and the reason I offered to be the one that stays home. At first I was kind of pissed that the whole vacation thing was even brought up. Helloooo?! Two-year old?!

I would put forth the idea that you should wait another year when he is closer to three. It certainly makes him a lot more manageable.

We flew to Alaska for a 2 week vacation with a 18 month old. sippy cup to help with the ear popping....childrens benedryl to help with the sleeping....He did really well...(it is of course only a 3 hour time difference.) We were there for the longest day of the year....so all of us were screwed up....Man is the sun bright at 2am up there in June! Just make sure they get their own seat...cause sharing with a kid sucks big time....we did it on the way up...and dropped the cash to keep from doing it on the way home...

I say go...unless the kid has issues with long distance travel already...

Otherwise...why not somewhere in the US Virgin Islands??

I can't stand other peoples kids on a long plane flight there is not a chance in hell I would take a 2 year old that I was responsible for to Hawaii. A good set of head phones was the only thing that saved me on our flight to Hawaii from having to listen to all the damn kids on it.

Go to Florida, it's not as pretty but there is lots of things to do. The St. Pete/Clearwater area is ok and pretty laid back with short drives to universal, disney etc. Find a condo to rent on one of the islands there, we stayed on Tierra Verde and had good time.

If it would help out at all you can keep your kid in my garage while you're gone...

Discover the charm of Seagrove, a beach neighborhood that locals and guests love. Lush oak trees, magnolias, and pines have spread deep roots in Seagrove.

Some friends of ours have a beach house we get to go visit once or twice a year...great place, good family atmosphere, you'll love it!

Edit - they also rent that beach house by the week....I might could get you the hookup too, Jimmy.

Thanks, man. We'll be looking at this as well as Atlantis. What are the popular kid friendly activities and what are some of the favorite things you guys like to do?

I made my final case last night and Maui is officially out of the running, which was quite a relief for me. Now me next case will be why I'm using extra miles to get him his own seat on the plane.

As many have said jump over to Florida. I am off to Key West Monday and the low will be 71 the whole time we are there. For little dude take time during the flight to walk him up and down the plane. I flew in last night from Seattle after waiting almost 3 hours on the dam thing for them to fix it before we took off. A mom on the plane walked little dude up and down about every half hour and the rest of us never heard a peep.
