I am looking for a present for my 10 year old brother in law. Not buying him anything over say 80$ because he will break it before New Years anyway. What is a good outdoor style RC vehicle in that range? Or are there even any that cheap? Not talking about the @9.99 walmart special either.

Yeah, I dabble a bit.
I've ordered from these guys before, they carry great stuff and ship fast.
The Electrix are so-so, Team Losi makes a really tough product right in your price range. This is about as cheap as RC goes if you want something with variable throttle and turning. Everything else out there that is cheaper, like the wallies you speak of typically do not have variable throttle and turning.

It's just a little out of your price range (price at bottom of page), but I'd bet he's love this.

honestly your best bet would be to scour ebay, or RC forums since the resale on a used R/C is horrible for the seller. (they drop about 50% after theyre opened), you can probably score a used stampede for that price or pretty close, and theyre really durable and replacement parts are dirt cheap as well.

Awesome, we got the Losi for my father in law... since he has everything in the world already, we thought a toy would keep him occupied.Tera 4:1 + 4.88's = Slowest rig on here

Yep, but I sold my EMaxx and TMaxx a long while back. Been into RC helicopters as of late. Have a boat, but never mess with it. I'm not sure what to recommend on that budget. Interested in gas or electric? You should scroll through the RC section on newegg.com They have some pretty decent entry level RC toys that are cheap. Nothing special, but something to start out with. This hobby can get expensive in a hurry.

Not really R/C truck, but my 10 yr old got this for Christmas last year. It's durable as all hell, and still one of his favorite toys. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003AZZSQ8
