Jews dont consider themselves a race.

One person, who is not a rabbi, nor an expert on Judaism, who was raised as an Orthodox Jew, doesn't consider themselves a race.

I know my brother in law, an Israeli born Jew, and his entire family and the community he grew up in do consider being Jew for them a race.

Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's ex prime minister has also stated, "If Israel had not come into existence after World War II, then I am certain the Jewish race wouldn't have survived".

The US Government recognizes being Jewish as a race.

"Jews" such as Albert Einstein have considered themselves Jewish as a "race", even thought they were not religious.

Also, Jews were not persecuted and killed by the Nazi's because of their religious beliefs, Hitler believed that the Jews threatened his "master race", and he set forth to remove their race from the existence.

Until recently, the last 30-40 years in the United States, there was no process to convert to Judaism. Conversion was not allowed, because Jews felt that it would be a threat to their "race", since to be considered truly Jewish, it has to be passed down through your bloodline.

I agree race is a socially created idea, it does carry with it genetic ideals. Many will argue that a race is determined by common biological traits, as well as ancestry and geographic origin. The true basic human races in the most simplest and purest forms are based on common biological traits; Mongoloid, Caucasian, Negroid, and Austroloid. But those races were also original pure races, before societies became mobile, and the idea of sub-races formed due to basic evolution, mutation, and inter race breeding.

Race in its simplest terms is defined as "a group of persons related by common descent or heredity". Considering the original Jews were the "chosen people" all from a common place, who shared the same biological traits, and geographic ancestry, who bred amongst themselves, and created a "pure" bloodline originally, then the basis of Jewish being a race is supported.

Today however, simply claiming Judaism as a religion and calling one self a Jew does not make you Jewish by race. Orthodox Israeli Jews are Israeli by nationality, Jewish by race, and Jewish by religion. They can always denounce Judaism as their religion, and they can seek citizenship elsewhere to claim a different nationality, but they cannot stop being Jewish by race. Just like I cannot stop being Caucasian by denouncing it. Not that I would, I love being white!
