Of course after I found my 76'!!!

    It didn't have a price just a phone #.
I called of course. Waiting to hear back.
I know where a '56 Chevy step side is, and its a truck I grew up in. It was our beater/work truck when I was a kid, and its still on the road but in need of a restoration. If I could just convince the old guy that has it to sell it, I'd be bringing it back to life. It still looks like the 'Old Blue' that I remember.

I'll be opening the negotiations shortly.

    A pick from the past.....

Trucks have been available with a 6 foot bed forever. Not sure I've ever seen a "shortened cab".

That's a good looking '56. My dad has a couple '55/56 pickups he would sell. They're all apart, but would be good to build a truck out of.

The OP's truck would look a million times better with an altitude and wheel change. Good start to a cool project.

I went with a buddy of mine to check over an '82 Chevy short-wide a couple months ago. Turned out to be a REALLY nice truck, so he bought it and I drove it home. We had to back the timing off a little, and do some adjusting on the carburetor, but it is an amazingly clean truck. Anyone in McKinney sees a blue and white two tone lowered '82 Chevy pickup running around, that's my buddy.

        I will remember that.

I love the home made bumper guard that was on it. I thinks it's gone though. The hood ornament (from an olds I think) is still on it. I saw a bunch of nice examples at good guys, and it really got me hooked, I ready to scoop it up, after my current project is finished.

I would have to agree. I'm all about less bling and more rubber on classics.

I can snap some pictures of the trucks when I'm up there on Tuesday.

I would actually like to bring my '66 down about 2-2 1/2" more in the front and an inch or so in the back if I don't sell it some time soon.

Yeah do that. Archive some photos, I'll hopefully be starting on it this spring. I just have to get it back from the current owner, and it may be difficult, but I'm not leaving without it.

              Aaron,

When things get a little more sorted out on this I am gonna give you and your paints a shout to see what you might be able to come up with on mine.

The wheels on it now will be ditched for some stock wheels with beauty rings for sure!!!
Started on the interior this week changing it from red to gray. Several trim pieces done.
Taking care of the cheap and easy stuff first. Will post pics when all done.

On a side note, just changing the spark plugs has got the MPG up to 15!!!! Still needs cap/rotor/coil/wires. Then exhaust fixed. Hopefully when said and done will be getting 16-17mpg out of this thing??!!!

Good deal. I'm sure we can get something figured out.

Just putting an MSD ignition box on it will help a lot too. Helps with cold starting and fuel mileage. The 6AL that was on my dad's '47 Hudson made a 2mpg difference in fuel mileage !

I put a new set of points and an MSD 6A on my '66, and I can go out right now and pump the gas twice and it will bust right off.

Funny you said that, I have a 6AL sitting in the garage waiting to go in as soon as I get time and the weather warms up a little.
It WAS for the stang project, but at this point, the stang is a ways away before being up and running. So I'm gonna "borrow" it and put it on the truck.

Good idea. They work great and are SUPER easy to hook up. Does your truck have points, a Pertronix module or an HEI ?

We had put a distributor in my 283 that already had a Pertronix and it worked fine for about the first 1500 miles I drove the truck. Then one night when the wife and I were going to the tattoo shop, it just shut off coming up the on-ramp in Allen on 75 like I turned the key off. It was really strange. I could turn the key to the start position, and give it some gas and it would run until I let off the starter and it would die. I thought it was something in the new Chinese ignition switch I had just put in it a month before. So I unhooked my cigarette lighter and pulled the wire back through the firewall and jumped around the switch by running it straight from the battery to the coil and it busted right off ! Alright ! We're on our way ! Nope. It died and wouldn't start back up. After I had my buddy tow the truck to the house and let it sit overnight I went out and messed with it the next morning. Went and got a new ignition switch and it started right up, so I drove it to the shop. I got there and started looking at the wires from the starter to the coil because they were rough looking and realized it still had the wires hooked up like it had a ballast resistor for the points in the system. Took all that shit out, took the Pertronix out, put a new set of points in it and gapped them to .019 and it busted right off and ran like a top. Hasn't missed a beat since.

It's got an HEI on it.

When the weather is nice I still have to spend a WHILE at the car wash with some degreaser to get all the grease and grime off so I can actually see the casting numbers and see what motor I actually have.

I know it's a 350/350 combo, but that isn't what came with the truck originally and want to see what they actually put in there I have???

                      Come on WEATHER!!!!!!!!
