It still tracks your location from pinging the cell towers.

That's why I just have all my passwords for everything as: 12345. Easy to remember and fast to type in.

Not since you're on a different ROM.

Nah, they just hard code it into the OS.

Ding ding ding ding! What do we have for him Johnny?

FWIW, this isn't a device or OS specific thing, this is a wireless carrier thing. I'm surprised it tool Endgadget so long to report on this, I've know for a couple of weeks via XDA.

The custom firmwares/roms, unless the chef didn't remove it(haxd stock), do not have this crap in them.

Oops, looks like there is a chance that this software is also on the iPhone. They are still trying to confirm it.

The Carrier IQ tracking controversy is getting bigger, as references to the company have been discovered within iOS.

                          HA!

I make people's default gmail passwords their phone number, because they'll forget everything else. :|

So there is a bit more information about the Apple version of this. It only logs specific technical data but does not have access to communication or the UI. So, unlike the Android version, it doesn't see your SMS messages, passwords, or any other key logging.

It is that kind of logging that really bothers me because it is a huge security hole. Also, we still don't know what is being done with that log file. Is it being uploaded somewhere. Even if its not, you've gotta thinks someone is going to try to exploit this in the future.
