  • Thinking about trading in the Rubicon for an econo-box

I've been kicking around the idea for a few months now, I've got a 2010 Rubicon unlimited that i've built up pretty nice, and my wife loves driving it every day, but the payment is pretty high and paying close to 400 bucks a month in fuel fucking blows. all together the jeep is costing me about a grand a month, not including insurance. Right now, money isnt too much of a concern, but I am considering a couple of different job/career change options, and all of them would require a pretty hefty pay cut to start off. So, I'm thinking about trading the Rubi in and getting something uber cheap that gets killer gas mileage. My wife has mentioned that the Kia Soul is "cute" and the price seems right. Are there any other options that yall think we should look at? I'd love to stay under 15k brand new, and NO, not a Fiesta (fucking hideous)

I hated when i traded my new silverado in on a Malibu for my wife a few months ago but it saves about $600 a month easy between payments, gas, and insurance.

Well honestly i really dont care about the Rubicon, I really want to build a 4 seat buggy that's semi street legal for wheeling, probably something like a F-toy or something similiar that i can build relatively cheap. My wife loves the jeep but fuck, it sucks paying almost a grand a month total. told her to start looking at cars.. i'm looking at the Kia's, Hyundais, chevy sonic and mazda 3.

i've got a 2006 kia rio i bought in january of 06 and i have put 113k on it. i was 20 years old when i bought it and for the first few years i dogged the crap out of it, not intentionally but just drove it like most early 20 year olds do lol

problems fixed under warranty: passenger airbag sensor at 20k & pressure plate at 40k was making a faint squeaking sound(i'm sure that was due to me driving it like an asshole)

problems fixed out of my own pocket: egr valve at 110k

i plan on driving this thing for a long time. i can care less that it is not fast or fun, i have a motorcycle for that

Yeah Kia seems to be pretty solid, realistically whatever we buy would be gone in 4-5 years so I doubt I'd have any real issues with it.

I drive on a dedicated fleet for kllm. Great company but I want to work for my step dad as a machinist.

another option is the honda fit, my parents bought one a few months after i bought my car and if i would have had the chance i would have got what they did

                      manual trans $15,175
                      auto trans $15,975

but they come with a lot more standard equipment. plus being a hatch they offer way more room than the rio. not sure if it would be too small for you/your ladies taste but a damn good car

                      .

Kia is hard to beat for a new, inexpensive econobox.

Yeah those Rio's actually are getting expensive now.

The new 2013 bodystyle looks great though (for a compact)

Not such a big fan of the Fit but we'll probably check out alot of different options. We actually traded in our Camry for the Rubicon LOL. It was a dumb impulse buy, but hopefully we'll figure out a way to trade it in without going too far upside down.
