I've been subpoenaed twice in 2011. Once for a traffic accident that i witnessed (not involved in) and a lawsuit between two partners at a client of mine.

The traffic accident deposition took about 15 minutes and they were cordial and professional. Once the lawyer for the old lady that ran the stop light realized my testimony screwed his case he just shut up and gave up questioning me.

The client case - fuck me. Talk about a no win situation. Both partners were accusing the other of cooking the books. problem is, neither one know jack shit abotu computers (they have their secretaries turn them on) so their imagination runs wild with all the shit they think the other one did. That took 4 fucking days of constant grilling over IT related stuff and explanations of why or why not something could have happened. Didn't help that the lawyers were nearly as clueless about computers.

ask them to put you on standby. usually if you can get there within 30min they will do it. that way you'd still be able to work. notify your employers that you would need to leave for x ammount of time. doesn't make sense that someone couldn't cover you for an hour and a half...

doesnt work like that. I cant leave my patients in the middle of a shift. Its patient abandonment and I can lose my license. Its I work, or I dont. There wont be other people cover my patients. Im going to lose part of my paycheck

Would you want to have to basically be on call, get ready for work, and sit and wait for him to call, only to come in and pick up 2 hours? I imagine that would be tough to find anyone, assuming it is even allowed.

My wife is a ICU RN and they can't leave to even eat lunch. Patient abandonment just like 8mpg said.

People can come in but who would come to work for just two hours of pay? It's easier just to call in and have them call somebody on the on call list to cover your shift

i guess the reason i thought that is because every time ive been to the hospital there is a "crew" on the floor. yes one nurse is assigned x ammount of patients but i wouldn't think it would be too hard to get cover from the others on the floor.

i goto court all the time and if they actually want him then they should give him the exact times they need him for the stand. especially if it is a lawsuit that he brought upon a company then it doesn't even make sense why he wouldn't already be there on his own anyways...
