  • Is there a medical datbase future employers can access?

If so I need to get a copy of whats on mine so I can get my dates straight. Iv been filling out various apps and one of the medical questions on most pre-hire evaluations is about previous surgeries. Iv been in the hospital a few times over the past 10 years and have had 3-4 surgeries. I cant even remember what year most of them were.
I think an employer will only know about anything I write down and there's no way to verify it anyway? I dont want to be off 4-5 years from what I wrote down.

Medical records are private unless you give written consent for them to be released.

From what I understand neither health care nor insurance providers are allowed to release that info without it being authorized by you. You could look up HIPAA.

Pretty sure if he is filling out an application which asks for medical history, and they are actually going to check up on it, they are going to get permission to release it to them.

If you know where you had the services performed, why not just call up their billing dept and ask for the dates of service?

This. I wouldn't give that kind of info unless it's required ex. LEO or Fire fighter.

Not unless you sign consent for your medical records to be released. HIPAA is your friend.

I'm just curious what kind of employment you're seeking that gets that in-depth regarding prior medical history.

You should be able to contact the hospital(s) or the doctor(s) and get a copy of your records. There can be up to a week turn around time if your records aren't electronic. If you can't wait, I'd not I'd note it as an approximate date so you don't get popped for "lying" on an application.
