Unless they have done a complete overhaul of the fleet, werner is one of the worst companies to work for. They start off at something like .24-.26 cents a mile, which assuming you run a decent week at 2,500 miles for example, thats 625 dollars a week for roughly 50-60 hours of work if you're a live load/unloader, not to mention you're XX miles away from home for 3-4 weeks if not more.. They do have the pony express or whatever and the dollar general accounts which pay more, but i dont know anything about those. over half of our class went to Werner, about 15 people. 10 of those people quit within a few months because they were starving in their trucks, the other 5 toughed it out to 6 months then went to crete/kllm/etc. I would look at Crete if i were you, they got some pretty sweet paying dedicated routes and they have a terminal just south of Dallas.

oh, and get used to driving around at 60-62 miles an hour on the highway, because pretty much all of the major carriers are governed at that. It was probably the happiest day of my trucking career when i got assigned the Volvo i have now and realized it wasnt governed and could actually go 70 mph like all the other normal people. LOL!

i'm surprised they're letting you go that fast in a school setting. But yes the first 6 months or so was fucking horrible going 61 mph (on the gps) especially on small 1 lane roads where the whole world goes fucking beserk over the fact you're going 9 miles under the speed limit. Supposedly its "safer" going 61, as your following distance is almost always guaranteed to be alot more then required as people blow by, but i sure as hell feel much safer going 70 and at the flow of traffic without people desperately trying to get around me and risking the lives of everybody on the road so they can get home 2 minutes faster. I suffered for about a year and 100,000 miles at 60ish then got my volvo and been loving life at 70 mph and in an automatic, to boot.

Ya I've never understood the thinking that going under the speed limit is somehow safer. It just puts you in the way of others, and causes people to drive reckless around you.
I'm pretty sure the instructor would have me slow down if he thought I was over my head. But I've been properly slowing for corners and hills and what not. I'm on open highway when I'm getting into the 70s.

Ive had a cdl for 16 years now and can't remember anything terrible difficult about any of the tests. Ive pulled about every kinda trailer since and liked flatbed/rgn's the best. I have pulled coils and building materials as a backhaul and the tarping bullshit kinda sucks. The MOST money i made as an owner/operator was pulling oilfield junk. My neighbor is a shop supervisor for a large trucking company, he says they are losing drivers left and right b/c of going to electronic logs. No way around them, they sit= no miles= no money.

When I went through training I hated riding in the back while the others drove. Probably wouldn't have been as bad had we not been pulling a smooth bore tanker half full of water. I didn't think those other idiots were ever going to figure the surge out. I'm a big bastard and there were a few times when I caught air off the bed when they tried to shift with the surge lol.-2013 Mustang gt.

???? 100k a year? LOL!
oh, are you an O/O? that would make sense (gross pay)
i make around 50 a yr, and i'm home every weekend and can pretty much go home at will, and only drive in texas with the rare excursion into Ark and La. I havent met very many HONEST drivers that make that much money that arent O'O's with under 5 years of experience. I've thought about getting into oil field stuff, but just dont have any idea where to start, and it seems kind of sketchy with how fast the industry can boom and then just completely shut down an entire region and lay everybody off.

Lol I hate riding in the back while others drive. It's even worse that I caught on really quick, and some of the others are up there grinding and shaking away. Luckily I got a pretty good group and we all make fun or each other for messing up. Almost like a little group of dfwmustangers.
I'm sure ill get tired of driving quick enough, but I do that with every job. At least this way I won't be stuck in a cubicle with 100 mouth breathers.

one thing bout a cdl is that your achohol level goes from .08 to .04 even in your personal vehicle.
Also if you get a ticket in your personal car truck whatever you cant go down and do defered or do defensive driving to keep it off your reccord.
I take mine to a few traffic attnorneys ive used since highschool. Ive gotten out of a few bogus tickets. One that killed me was my own damn fault, 30 in a school zone. Just moved to the area and never drive in the area when school is in. No traffic attnorney would touch it out here in ellis county for less than 500$ ticket was only 202$ I ended up paying it and taking the 2 points on my reccord.
also are you going to the school thats always driving off 820 around team ranch, etc.?
