  • New Dodge Half Tons

Anyone here have one? Looking for feedback. Wasn't really considering a new vehicle, but took a trip this weekend in my Father's 2011, and damn it's nice. Plenty of power, nice without being too nice (it is a truck after all). Seems like due to reputation, resale is still shit, which means there are decent deals out there. His was a hail special and I believe he got it for $16,000 or so. 2wd, crew cab, sat radio and cd. I don't recall what package it is.

One of my rugby teammates has a new crew cab. I rode up to Norman, OK in it this summer. I agree they are nice. It was a smoother and quieter ride than most cars I'm in.

I don't like the backseat configuration in them. I don't see why dodge doesn't make a straight across bench seat like every other truck on the road has.

We test drove a 2012 the other week and they really made them nice. The only difference in the 2011 and 12's is the 12's come with a 6 speed automatic. It is an extra gear in the middle, 1st and final drive are the same ratios. There have been reports of the 5 speeds having a bit of trouble with the newer 390 horse hemi which was the main reason for the change. Either way, the trucks are nice, great looking, plenty of power, and still get decent mpg. The variable displacement on the hemis works great and really helps the mileage on highway trips.

JMO, I'd never own a dodge 1/2 ton.

I've always said the same. Even as recently as with my father's 2005. He totalled that one, and replaced it with the 2011. I'm telling you, this thing is light years ahead of the 05. Comfortable, quiet, and more power than I need for what I'd use it for. I'd buy slightly used 2011 or 12 (or a hail damage sale like he did in the spring) and run it til the wheels fall off.

Dodge trucks are shit, imo. Unless it has a cummins under the hood, I wouldn't consider it.

How long since you have owned one and do you have any proof? Dodge vehicles are not the same as they used to be.

Also, the Rams are the only trucks of the big 3 that come standard with 100k mile warranty.

Btw... Ram is its own entity under Chrysler.. just like Jeep is. No longer called a Dodge Ram 1500... just a Ram 1500.

HAHA I want one of the 2012 Rams pretty bad. I went and test drove one for the hell of it. Not ready to be strapped to that kind of payment. My 07 Ram Runs great and will be paid off soon. I will drive it for a while.

Go a head and buy a dodge. Just don't get mad when a v6 leaves you in the dust.

Please reread my statement then ask me when the last time I owned a dodge was again. What proof do I have? Transmissions, dodge transmissions were shit in the past, so going with what I've seen of them in the past, and no indicators that I have seen say anything different. Maybe in ~5 years or so down the road when the current trucks have 150k or so on them, I'll reevaluate my stance on them. As of right now I'm not going to buy a product that has proven itself unreliable in the past. Even in this same thread it was said they changed transmissions from '11 to '12 because they were having issues. That whole deal reeks of poor engineering, something I've grown to expect from the dodge/Chrysler/jeep brands.

                          F150 ECOBOOST = 365 hp and 420 ft-lb

                          Ram Hemi = 390 hp, 407 ft-lb

I have feeling they would be pretty close in stock form.

There are a few you tube bids where there are hemi 's with a few.minor mods. (Intake exhaust etc.) Vs bone stock low mileage 4 door ecoboost trucks and the ecoboost just leaves em behind pretty dirty.

The ecoboost F150's are good motors and when it comes time for me to get a new truck I will need to decide between the F150 and the Ram 1500. Anyway, notice how in these discussions nobody ever argues for the Chevy truck? haha
