#3 is 100% true. Regarding the others, the honor and mercy shown on numerous instances by the Kriegsmarine is well documented. I had three uncles in the Navy in the Atlantic during WWII (one on a supply ship, one on a battleship, and one on a destroyer). They all told me stories about instances of mercy of just honorable behavior by the Germans. Those were probably the last instances of gentlemanly warfare.

I watched a special on the history channel about Hilter being saved. The findings stated that Hitler was stationed in a different part or the country when it supposedly happened. They researched the documentation available and said that there are no documents that state Hitler was anywhere remotly close to that area.
