I love the auto in my F150 and would hate shifting it if it were a manual. My Cobra and 240sx are the only manuals I have had and I can not imagine having a small, underpowered car or performance car without a manual. I am scared of the new Ford chinese manual however.

I love manuals, but a well built auto will hold more power and run quicker in many instances.

My current truck is a 6.4 Powerstroke, and in order to hold the 250-300hp tunes I run, I would have had to put a noisy aftermarket clutch in it.

But the factory auto is computer controlled and with programming holds the power just fine

I really do love manuals, but not when they are the wrong choice

The only place for an auto is in a truck or suv.

Automatics are faster...so what? How often does anyone find themselves needing that extra two-tenths of second? A stick is a bazillion times more entertaining and involving for the 99% of the time that I'm not driving as fast as I can in a straight fucking line.

Dual clutches, 8 speeds, paddle shifters, generally more durable, new fuel economy regs, ect..., ect...

There are more and more reasons the automatic will kill the manual. In fact, BMW engineers bemoaned the need to make a manual tranny for the new M5. They said they only do it because the US market demands it.

Right now the most gears you can get in a manual is 7 and that is on the 2012 911. Does anyone really want to manually shift 7 or 8 gears in DFW traffic?

I think the stick will require some sort significant technological advance in order to survive the future.

I dont care how fast they shift or what they can do, I just prefer to row my own gears. ALso usually they're cheaper to fix when things go wrong because its usually a hydraulic issue or a clutch or something minor.

I generally agree, but mark my words, the days of the stick shift are numbered. Those of us that prefer to shift our own gears are becoming more and more rare.

Here's another question... With all these super duper 20 gear quad clutch auto being better mpg and supposedly quicker; aren't these things more expensive to fix and more prone to breaking then a manual?? This is what scared me away from my 07 GTI I bought back in 07. The DSG was like .5 seconds faster 0-60 and had the same if not better (don't totally recall) mpg. I opted for the 6spd manual with fear of the DSG once warranty wore off. I remember the techs bitching about how much these cost people to fix (also worked at vw back n the day).

I love manuals, but OEM's build cars for the average retard, and the average IQ is WAY down. So they have to neuter manual equipped vehicles more than they do automatics to account for those who can't drive and to entice those who can't drive into buying an auto! LOL

Manual for my fun car, and auto for my everyday truck. I remember having a 5 speed for a commuter in Houston traffic. Never again.

Every car I've ever owned was a manual transmission. The only automatics I've had are trucks, and I prefer it that way. Automatics are for boring cars, and I've never owned such a vehicle.

It amazes me the amount of people that can't drive a manual. Some just never learned, and some simply can't do it, which is unbelievable. I guess not everyone grew up jumping on anything with an engine like I did. I also stole my older siblings' cars when I was barley a teenager, which were manuals. I just had to learn.

I read an article that said the percentage of manual transmission passenger vehicles sold in america was ~7%.

So many people think of their vehicle as an appliance just to go from point A to point B these days. Yeah it sucks driving in traffic, but that is just part of the driving experience.

My truck has a granny 4-speed, the daily has a 5-speed OD, and the toy has a 2-speed Powerglide. It still gets shifted manually, at around 50 mph.
