  • Need AllData info \ mechanic referral...

    Hey all,

I've got a bad leak in my damn plastic radiator that at this point does not look to be fixable other than replacing the whole damn thing.

Does anyone have access to AllData and maybe could look up remove\replace procedures on a 2001 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder (2.3)?

My apartment complex would go crazy if I did this in the parking lot, so I need to find out what kind of time frame it would be if I did this myself.

    Which comes to number 2...

Does anyone have any referrals to a good mechanic around Richland Hills\Hurst who will install the parts that I give them and refill the radiator at a fair cost.... (not the $550 that Firestone wanted)?

Any assistance would be appreciated.... Thanks!

    Radiator-Aluminum Core, Crossflow

    Removal

    Disconnect the battery negative cable.
    Drain the cooling system.

Remove the rubber radiator overflow hose or radiator vent hose.
Disconnect the electro-drive fan wiring connector, if equipped.

Remove the two screws. Lift the fan shroud out of the lower retaining clips and drape it on the fan blade.

    Remove the upper radiator hose.

    Remove the lower radiator hose.
NOTE: To avoid disturbance to the transmission oil cooler fitting, use of a backup wrench is recommended.

Disconnect the two transmission cooling lines, if equipped.

Remove the screws and tilt the radiator back and lift it directly upward.

    Installation

Position the radiator into the engine compartment and install the bolts.
NOTE: To avoid disturbance to the transmission oil cooler fitting, use of a backup wrench is recommended.

Connect the two transmission cooling lines to the radiator oil cooler fittings if equipped.

NOTE: Reinstall the constant tension clamps in the same position from where they were removed.

Install the upper radiator hose to the radiator.

NOTE: Reinstall the constant tension clamp in the same position from where it was removed.

Install the lower radiator hose to the radiator.

Install the fan shroud to the radiator.
Connect the electro-drive cooling fan connector, if equipped.

Install the rubber radiator overflow hose or radiator vent hose to the radiator.
    Fill the cooling system.
WARNING: Do not stand in line with or near the engine cooling fan blade when revving the engine.

Operate the engine for several minutes and check the hoses and connections for leaks.

    Connect the battery negative cable.

                Thanks for the info Buick.

If I do it, It will have to be in an in-law's driveway with limited tools.

Damn I miss having a garage and extended craftsman tool collection....

Cake if manual trans. One notch below cake if auto trans. Talisman can get you a radiator and coolant.

I used Bills after Rreemo referred me to them also. I was very pleased with the work they did for me and will be using them going forward. There prices really are about half of every other mechanic.
