I used to buy cars for a dealer and one of my methods was take NADA retail and knock off $2500 and that was my offer. I wouldn't take off more than $500 unless they we were doing well off the trade then I would work with them. I would also compare it to Manheim and local auctions. You can usually find the exact same car on the Manheim database and I wouldn't pay a penny over what I could get it though auction.

Yeah man, happy to help. I absolutely adore these cars. We're in a sweet spot for people like me that can pick up a sub-100K mile car for less than $15K and have it be packed with luxury options and be fun as hell to drive. They have a couple issues that effect all of them (bad compression rod bushings and a crap stereo design), but they're totally worth fighting through those minor faults. Good luck to your friend.

$10500 is not far off track. They are bringing $9-11500 at the auction with comparable mileage. They hit it right in the middle. There are a lot of those cars out there for sale so there is not shortage. If someone was trading it in to me that is right where I would hit it.

Spoken like someone who has never actually sold a car to Carmax. People that say Carmax is a joke fit in to two categories.

1) Don't know any better, because they've never done business with them.
2) Are either upside down on their car, or delusional about market value, and think the Carmax offer is insulting because of how far upside down, or jaded they are about the market/condition of their car.


I've sold two there, and both offers from Carmax were WELL over what other dealers were offering, and right at what I would have gotten out of them had I sold them privately, without all the hassle of private sale, listing fees, etc.

Thanks for the help guys. My biggest concern was that they were trying to screw my friend over. I went by this morning and talked to one of the guys I know, and everything seems like they are doing her right on that particular deal. They aren't making much on the deal the way they were working it. I'm going to stop back by after work and talk to the sales manager that penciled the deal and see if there is anything else that they can do. It is a KILLLER deal on the lexus.

I absolutely love the car, it is very fun to drive, and as you said, the bang for the buck is great. The only thing I haven't liked driving wise is that the throttle response seems to lag quite a bit. I'm used to a throttle cable not the DBW type stuff. So when I'm on the highway/interstate and want to get around, I put my foot in it and have to wait for the response to catch up to me.

True. I sold a Vette to Carmax for $2k more than a Chevy dealership offered me. I think their asking prices for cars is a little on the high side but I was happy to sell to them.

You have to figure in the fact you are going to get a credit towards the tax with the value of your trade in. So, in reality she is getting 11156.00 for her trade in. If she is going to sell it to carmax or anywhere else she needs to get more than 11156.00 to get the same value. Personally, I think the dealer will pay 11000 but I dont see them paying anymore than that

Yeah, I've advised her about the increase in taxes if she doesn't trade it in. The owner of the autogroup will be there tomorrow and they are going to run the trade by him and see if he is willing to put anymore in it.

Id say a Z06 is more a specialty car...they deal with more typical commuter cars. They dont do much with diesel trucks either.
