I don't understand why people don't want to work OT?

I mean it's one thing if during the holidays, but 12 hour days aren't anything and that 1.5 adds up quick!

remember when you were a kid and entered a competition? 10 kids entered, but 3 got medals...1st 2nd and 3rd place.....maaaybe a 4th place if they were being generous. the other kids got jack shit. and that was just how it was. oh well.

now, 10 kids enter a contest and everybody gets something. because someone "may get their feelings hurt". or some shit. its retarded. and sad.

I am also an oilfield worker. I am a driller for a very large drilling company and i have seen the down fall of the quality of people we hire to work on our rigs. They have made it so hard to fire a bad hand that all of the guys think they are just safe to do as they please and fuck off.
They make us go to these be nice classes where they tell us how nice we need to be. Where were these classes when my drillers used to beat shit into my head???
Im only 24 years old and can admit that its hard to find a good work ethic among people my age

I agree that the US work ethic has overall gone down, but fuck all that extra work shit if I didn't sign up for it. However, I do expect folks to handle their business on the shit they did sign up for.

Shit, in my area of work you can't help BUT be on call. We have reps all over the world that either need tech assistance, parts, can't get on the internet or some random question. I guess for us it's different because they are like your brother and most everyone goes out of there way to help each other out but that goes back to everyone being prior military.

A lot of of us grew up watch our parents bust their ass and was gone most of the time. Dads gone 7 days a week, not getting home until after supper or even after bedtime. Maybe some (some to most are lazy) people do not want to do this for companies that don't give a rats ass about them. Maybe this generation realizes they can get laid off just as fast as they got hired and don't want to kill themselves in the process.

Why work yourself into a grave for a company your just a number at? Why miss that time away from the most important thing and that's family?

To be honest I don't care to work 60 hours a week. Working 60 hours a week is nothing to brag about really. Just like bragging about never using your vacation, it's a benefit wtf is so special about not using your vacation?
                As said.

I don't mind overtime when it's an emergency, but when it becomes the norm, that's when I have an issue. Overtime is a failure on management to plan properly. When they don't plan, OT gets their nuts out of the fire but it's their underlings that truly suffer.

There's no excuse for constant overtime, IMO. Get staffed correctly, plan your build cycle correctly, or buy the proper equipment. Quit using OT as a crutch because "you" don't want to do the right thing.
