We have had 6 people quit within 2 weeks because of those 2 very reasons. In fact the state road authority here does not work at night either, so all the road construction is done during the day and they are you guessed it "UNION." When I worked in Texas as a service tech for an O&G Service company I was on call 7 days a week and averaged 80 hours a week. I knew about it before I started, and I stuck with it. Money was good too. People complain about jobs, but then they don't want to work for the dollar. It's no wonder why all of the Oil and Gas industry has to get people to move here from Texas, and Louisianna, etc. No one here has any fucking work ethic. Rant off...

Their fuckup is committing to the job in the first place if they knew the conditions.
I don't blame anyone for not wanting to work 80 hours a week or be on call all the time. I want to make a buck, but I damn sure don't buy into the idea that we all should work our asses off until we're too old and broken down to enjoy retirement anyway. But again, I wouldn't take the job in the first place just to quit a couple weeks later. That's just a waste of everyone's time.

I see the same thing in my line of work. On call was part of the gig when you were hired and you pull it one week at a time, approximately every 6-8 weeks. If you don't even get called in all week, it's $1000 take home just for standby pay. If you do get called in, it's 1.5x your hourly rate on top of standby. It's the easiest $1000 you'll ever make.
Yet, these guys constantly bitch and complain about it. In the same breath, they complain that they don't get paid enough. Fuckin lazy bastards.- Darrell
