Look at our recent history, how things changed as the television became popular...
And honestly, is there any way to fix it besides overthrowing the government? You can't honestly say that we can vote to change it - the politicians are looking out for the elite and are influenced by lobbyists to the point that they can't see straight. It's going to take something big, and not an isolated attack (anyone remember 9/11 - what did that change?), to fix America.

I don't know if there is any sort of quick fix, but I think it should start with society not telling the youth in America that they're all special and that they're always right.
I don't think there's anything wrong with letting a kid know that they're not a genius because chances are the kid sitting next to him eating paperclips ain't too bright either."Any dog under 50lbs is a cat and cats are pointless." - Ron Swanson

It starts with education in kindergarten: They are all smart, equal, etc. It's like this through college, for some kids. It's the same with kids in sports, with the "participation trophy" bullshit. "We don't keep score, because it doesn't matter who wins". Bullshit. It DOES matter who wins. Why play the game if we aren't keeping score? When it comes to a competitive job market, does it matter who wins? When my oldest daughter was 7 years old, she threw away her "participation trophy" before we even left the soccer field. I asked her why, and she said, "Daddy, everybody gets one of those, so it can't mean much". Kids realize this but parents don't? We are raising generations of under-achievers with a sense of entitlement this country has never seen. College degrees aren't enough anymore, because there are so many out there. In some cases, employee's are chosen by race instead of ability, which results in a higher level of incompetence. This applies to medical schools, too. Do you know what they call the guy who was ranked last in his class?...Doctor. Civil servant jobs are even worse. When it comes to policemen, firemen, etc., a certain number of minorities must be hired, regardless of test scores and/or ability. We, as a country, are settling for mediocrity.

I was highly concerned after I came back from overseas (Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq...etc...etc) and saw the population was generally stuck up and snobby still even though a lot of people were living a tough life on their behalf.
Also, the ignorance of people not understanding what was going on over there. (From the good, to the bad and ugly) Now, I fit the same bill because there is no way to know without being told and none of the media outlets give anywhere near the whole story.
To a great extent, I blame sensational media for where we are at right now. There are a 1000000001 problems they could be covering, but they/we prefer to hear about when Paris Hilton queefs. Well, I don't but obviously the majority does or they would not be covering it. Real problems are not fully covered and most stories are so lopsided it's ridiculous.
There are just so many things that need fixed, there should be 0 time for pop culture in the daily news. I could go on and on, but I think some on here will understand where I'm coming from. My wake-up was coming back and realizing no one has a clue. I love people that argue with me, who get all their information from the media. Some still think they are right, even when you lived it differently. It would be funny if it were not sad.
Voting may fix a problem or two, but it seems to be getting pretty bad these days.Originally posted by MR EDDU defend him who use's racial slurs like hes drinking water.

And therein lies our failing. You don't get to be the best or stay the best by giving everybody a hug, you do it by kicking the asses of those that need it, and make them tow the line or get the hell out of our society."It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."
