  • How to locate old vehicles?

Long story short when I was younger (about 13) I lost a service pin (30 or 35 years working for the city) that belonged to my grandfather under the seat of my dads Nissan pathfinder. It's not worth much but it would mean a lot to me to be able to recover it. It has haunted me for near 2 decades and I at least want to give it a shot. I do not know if it is somehow possible to see prior registered vehicles that a person once owned and possibly find the last person it was registered to. I can provide my dads info if it is possible.

If you can locate the vin you should be able to go to the dmv and they might be able to help you. Not sure if they will give out an address though.

Thats the deal, I don't know jack on the vehicle. I only have my dads info and I know that he once owned it. I guess I was hoping that there was a list somewhere that has all vehicles that a given person has ever had registered to them and that list could yield more info on the vehicle that would make it easier to find today.

As far as an address, thats where the finest internet detectives I know of come to mind.

Maybe you can contact his insurance company, they may have a record of it.

This has been almost 20 years ago..... I think im screwed, the thing could be across the street and I wouldn't know it. My dad has pretty much kept zero records and has alzheimers so he is of no help on this. He cant even remember that he once owned a blue pathfinder much less 2 of them.

The bad thing is most of the bigger information sites do not go back that far. Maybe if you knew anything like the guys name he sold it to or something.

Ah I had no idea it was 20 years ago. Unfortunately its probably been crushed or is sitting in a junk yard.

If he ever got a ticket in it, go to the court and they might be able to find an old license plate. Or if it was ever involved in an accident, DPS might have a record of it.

We were able to track down my father in law's old 69 Mustang. He sold it in the late 70's/early 80's. We had one picture that had a visible license plate number and finally located the owner. He was in Arlington and he just sold it 3 months prior to someone out of the country. Talk about getting your hopes up for nothing.

It is possible. My wife called the DMV with the old license plate number and she was lucky to get someone nice on the phone.
