BALLINGER, Texas (November 4, 2011)--At least one person was killed in a crash involving a bus carrying agriculture students from Abilene Christian University at around 3:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 83 in southern Runnels County, near Concho County line.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Phillip Dean told The Associated Press in a brief e-mail that numerous injuries were also reported.

A secretary at the Runnels County sheriff's office says the wreck happened between Ballinger and Paint Rock.

An emergency posting on the Abilene Christian University website said the bus was carrying 12 students, three faculty members and the spouse of one of the faculty members, representing the school’s Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

A source close to the school said the students and faculty members were en route to a ranch outside of San Antonio to do mission work.

It’s not clear whether students are among the dead.

KTXS in Abilene reported that injured victims were taken to Ballinger Memorial Hospital and that off-duty personnel were called in to assist.

Ballinger is south of Abilene on Highway 83, between Interstate 20 and Interstate 10.

good news is the death toll was reduced to 1. Still, so sad.
