  • If you could go back to when you were 18

and do it all over again- what career would you choose? Just thinking about my exit plan and trying to save up enough to take time off in a year or two to go back and do something I enjoy- when I figure out what that is.

If you could go back to when you were 18, what career would you choose and why?

    Hmm....good question.

I'd say if I could start all over again after high school, I would have pursued a EE degree instead of going into the medical field.

Why? Well, I would say simply that my interest in engineering has outlasted my interest in medicine. And the pay is better. And making a mistake has a different set of consequences.

      *I actually am a CPA's son but unfortunately don't have a lambo.

<---- son-in-law of a CPA and CPA Firm owner and must say, its not a bad gig (from what I see with all the toys, property, vacations, etc)

i dunno that i would change. im still young and can change career paths. i've learned alot from my time in retail. its not a dream job and i hope to change paths soon but the lessons i've learned are invaluable.

note making well above national average doesnt hurt but i wouldnt say i make alot.

what do you do in retail? I did that for 7 years up to regional manager, it pays good, but a lot of BS to put up with.

Nothing destroyed my hobby more than making it my career (IT).

The adage find what you love to do and make it a career is true if you want to be a porn star but it's not realistic.

Find a job that you are good at and that pays well. Whether you enjoy it or not isn't the point - that's why its called Work. Keep work out of what keeps you sane.

If I had to do it over again I would've gone career military or taken up the offer I had for a Treasury/Secret Service job. (In other words a government job with a pension because being a private citizen with a real job = all of the risk, none of the security.)

I would have spent a lot more time at my dad's shop learning how to build hot rods and custom cars and learning how to run a manual mill and lathe.

I would be a long ways ahead of where I am now had I started 12 years ago.

if I could go back knowing what I know now, I wouldn't need a fucking career because I'd be ungodly fucking rich before age 21 and only getting richer

but I don't often wish to go back in time and change things.

As far as careers go, I wouldn't change anything. I like practicing law.

Other than starting CFA studying sooner, nothing. I love what I do and get paid a lot to do it.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.
