  • My court date for ticket was rescheduled. Gotta question

Long story short I was scheduled for court for a ticket on 11/18/11 but I got a letter that its been rescheduled for 11/30/11.

I have plans to be out of town that week. Can I just pay the ticket and avoid going to court? It gives me the option on the dallas city hall website to pay it, but I dont want to pay it if I still have to go to court. First ticket ever so Im a noob at this...

Why are you going to court? Are you contesting the ticket? Or is it the original court date of the summons? If so, then yeah you can pay it prior to the court date.

Why a court date if you wanna pay in the first place?

Just hire an attorney like Jim Lollar in Arlington.

You can just pay it and be done with it. Or if you want to fight it you can go to court or hire a lawyer like others suggested. Sometimes if you really did it and have the cash it's easier just to pay it and be done with it. I would however carry a copy of the paid receipt with you for a few months in your car. I was once almost arrested over a ticket I had paid to the city of Irving. They made an error in their system but the officer was ready to take me to jail until I provided a printed copy of my receipt from online.

I've come across a bunch of warrants that were supposed to have been taken care of by an Attorney... Not sure why he couldn't just pay it and do deferred.

I've been using him for years. I went to court with him a couple times. Just today I got back $60 from that 7 year old ticket I posted up a few weeks ago. But thanks for the heads up. I'm sure it's probably people who didn't pay him, but I should probably make sure I'm not a criminal.

Go down to the city and tell them you want to do deferred and forget about it.

The officer was cool and told me to schedule a court date to get it dismissed because he wouldnt show up. Thats what I did, but now with the rescheduled date, Id rather just pay it than cancel my plans.

So if I pay the ticket does that mean they are notified in the system to dismiss the hearing? Again sorry, Im a total noob at this with a spotless record, I dont want to end up with a warrant because I missed court.

Hell, I WAS arrested for a paid Dallas ticket that was mis-filed, almost a year later. Spent 2 days (technically) in 2 jails before bonding out again and then going to court to get my money back.....no extra $$$ for their mistake either, judge was a bitch and said "don't press your luck" when I asked for compensation equal to sitting in jail to pay a ticket with time served. Assholes.

I would have had a fucking field day with that. Surprised you didn't take them to small claims. Lawyers foam at the mouth over shit like that.

call them to rescheduled, and tell them you have plans. They will set another date. If the cop isn't showing up, it should be dismissed. Why pay anything?
