To all the trigger happy cowboys, there's no way I'm firing shots at two white dogs fighting with a subcompact 45...especially when mine is trying to run away down the street. Too much can go wrong and I don't want to deal with the legal side of that. I'd choose this outcome everytime...

Pup is doing well, granted the cuts look worse from clotting and such. Just gonna continue cleaning and monitoring it in case a vet is needed.

That and reality, as RD witnessed, is a little different. Shit goes down fast. It's nice to have options, but you realistically may not have time. Plus, it probably would not be good to shoot a dog, in a residential neighborhood in the open.

So me and my GF are walking our lab when a illegal pitbull with cropped ears whose occupation is cop'er with an ak47 jumps out of it's house through the screen and starts attacking her...already reported it but now it's a matter of care.

She only has one puncture wound on her back leg and foot scratches, do we take her to the emergency vet or wait until the morning?

Thanks, just got back from the vet and she should be good to go. It was a much deeper wound than I thought, at least an inch and a quarter because of the way it tore the skin back when pulling. We got a shot and some antibiotic cream for dogs, and had the wound cleaned. The scrapes and other cuts weren't serious enough to worry about.

It was only $78 at my vet, and would have been much more at an E-vet. Glad we went this route, and thanks again for input. Now to see how well this guy pays up.

been to a lot of dog parks (even in college towns OMFG) and never seen somebody drop their dog off and leave.

seen a lot of fights, but never seen a dog get mauled to death (thankfully) at a dog park.

My dog has done this once, he was never aggressive towards other dogs or people and I trained him vigorously as a pup (I had three young children, at the time. full grown he was 46lbs). One day, he saw someone walking by the house with there dog on the sidewalk and cujo'd through the open window (through the screen). I didn't see him attack his dog, by the time I got outside Beau was cowering by the fence whimpering (guy hit him with a miniature bat he carried - which he had coming) . I asked the guy if he and his dog were alright, after looking his dog over thoroughly, the only issue we saw was a nail had broke on her front paw and was bleeding a little (I made sure to look thoroughly I went as far as running my hand all over the dog looking for any signs of pain as I went). I didn't make any verbal arrangement that I would take care of any vet bills, but we did agree at the time that there didn't appear to be any serious injury (in fact Beau looked to be the most injured, I had to carry him inside as he couldn't walk). I did strongly suggest he should have his dog checked out just to be sure (if anything was found that my dog had caused, I would have taken care of), I didn't hear anything back so I figured we were good.

Anyway, 6 months pass and I get a letter stating that his pure bred Alaskan Husky had died from a bite wound on his dogs chest . His 'vet' stated that my dog had some sort of bacteria in his mouth that caused this. And that he was looking for compensation in the amount of around 6k and Beau to be destroyed. I sent a response asking why this wasn't brought to my attention sooner, I also included that I gave him up and did not have him any longer and never heard back.

after that incident I decided to give Beau to my sister in law who has land just outside of Lubbock (it was a lot harder to do this that I had anticipated, nearly cried) he ended running off a week later, never to be seen again.

His ears were not cropped.

Pup is fine...not too happy about the costume her mom put on her though (I have since taken off...haha)!



She handled it better than me, and I am not looking forward to putting the ointment down into her wounds tomorrow...something about sticking a plastic applicator tube deep into her leg creeps me out.
