  • Garages for Rent in Fort Worth

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the site, first post and all. I had some posts over at DFWStangs, but not enough to warrant transferring them over here.

I need some help though. I live in an apartment in Fort Worth but am in need of a space to work on my cars, specifically a 67 Mustang. I don't need a massive space, maybe 10X20 or 10X25, with electrical outlets, in Fort Worth or nearby and management that isn't going to get onto my case about working on/storing a vehicle.

I thought I could do this at a run of the mill storage facility but after doing a little research and speaking to one of them, they don't generally have electrical outlets included in the units.

I'm sort of back to square one as far as how to proceed but surely there are places that cater to this particular need...

As far as budget goes, I'd like to keep in under $200 a month if possible.

    Thanks!

I'd look for an "rv" storage unit. A lot of those are bigger and have electrical outlets FWIW. Look on craigslist in the parking/storage section.

I had a '65 Mustang in a public storage facility for a while. It was small, maybe 18" to spare on either side of the car plus 3-5 feet behind the car. This was quite a few years ago so I don't remember the price, but it couldn't have been too bad because I was 19 or 20 at the time and wasn't exactly rich.

For what I needed, the storage facility was ok.

What do you think is a more reasonable price? $200 isn't a hard and fast requirement, more of a starting point.

Hmm that's nifty...although the storage unit I looked at didn't even have lights!

Wouldn't be opposed to buying a house but I'm really not sure if this is the area I want to live in and I don't have enough of a downpayment in the bank.

I've had storage unit workshops for years and years.
I ran a small automechanic shop from a converted 30x30 for a while.

The only storage places that were adequate for cars were always far away from the city.

Also, the light bulb outlet generally won't work for much more than 1 more light bulb.
The owners are savy and use a no-amp breaker.
So a compressor or battery charger will trip the breaker.
Some will cite a restriction for engines, that must be drained of fluids to be stored.

Even gated storage places get robbed all the time.
The last place I was at was gated and still got several units robbed.

are you in the military? if so, why not use the auto hobby shop on base?

in all honesty the size youre asking for, and the amount of electricity you sound like you plan to use, along with what sounds like potential property damage (i.e. accidentally busting holes in walls, oil spills etc. etc.) you might only be able to find someone who is willing to rent you their garage, OR there are some small local's outside of county lines that can provide this, hell i think in irving on pioneer parkway there is a storage that will provide what you need.... not sure on their rates though.
