My wife finally stopped by there and said she didn't see the Bookers (I'm thinking she didn't look too hard), but she did grab a bottle of Maker's Mark. I have to say, it is smooth. I have spent the last five minutes with my nose stuck in the glass inhaling the scent. A pair of ice cubes seemed to release some different aromas. Nutmeg, maybe a hint of leather?

I've never been a bourbon man, but that may change.

    • They had several bottles on the shelf when I went in yesterday and picked up the last bottle of Stagg. There is quite a bit to look at in their whiskey aisle, these days.

      • I'll google an image for her, she probably just didn't see it.

        • Have her call around. Big Papa's liquor is trying to be a contender these days, but most of it's patrons are looking for cheap stuff so it could still be in stock. Try out Old Weller Antique 107 as well.

          • My wonderful wife just made our latest purchase of a rather exciting addition to my whisky cabinet.

Ernest Shackleton was a man hell bent on doing great things. Among those great things was an expedition to Antarctica where he came within 97 miles of reaching the South Pole in 1907 with The Nimrod crew. He would have made it all the way, but he feared that he would kill his men in doing so.

He cared for his men in such a manner that he took with him several cases of Mackinlay's Rare Old Highland Malt Scotch to use as a comradery building tool.

A few cases of this fine whisky got left behind, underneath the floor boards of the camp. They were locked away in a frozen tomb for over 100 years.

A brilliant nostril by the name of Richard Paterson was placed in charge of replicating this elixir. The nose of this man is insured for $2.6 million. He is The Master Blender for Whyte & Mackay.

The replica is what I will have the honor of sniffing sometime in the next couple weeks.

Three crates of Scotch whisky and two crates of brandy left beneath the floorboards of a hut in Antarctica by the polar explorer Ernest Shackleton in 1909, at the end of a failed expedition to the South Pole, have been unearthed.

I wonder how much the original bottles will go for....

                  • The replica of Shackleton's Mackinlay's Rare Old Highland Malt Whisky came in today. He'll have to check in after sampling it, but I'll throw some pics up for now.

                    • If any of you like rum (straight, not with an umbrella) Gosling's Black Seal is an excellent choice for commercially available and affordable. There is a 151, and a reserve, I've heard both are excellent just like the main label, but my drinking days are over.

Great story. Extremely relevant to the thread topic. Would read again.

Sometimes you have to step outside the box to enjoy the finer things in life.
