Skunk scent?

anybody have experience with getting the skunk smell off a dog?
My wife let her little yorkie out this morning and it got sprayed. She brought it back in and I am about to shoot it and possibly her.

You can use a solution invented by Paul Krebaum, an Illinois chemist:

1 quart of hydrogen peroxide
¼ cup of baking soda
1 teaspoon of dish soap

Wouldn't hydrogen peroxide "bleach" the dogs hair or cause skin irritation? I have heard tomato juice has worked as well as a mixture of some sort with vinegar.

there is something about the chemical mixture with the baking soda that changes that. I was watching her mix this shit up and thought to myself this bitch has cooked meth before lol

I am glad I don't live out in the sticks and dealing with stinky dogs like that anymore. Nice to know the mixture works and didn't change the color and all that. LOL at meth reference.

i can tell you from experience that this works better than any commercial/urban myth cure. the quicker you can wash the dog with it the better it works.

I used some special de-skunking shampoo I bought at a pet store. It worked ok, but I really just had to bite the bullet and pay a professional groomer to get the smell completely out.

Even then, the dog had a faint skunk smell for about a month.
