            wow. RIP.

fyi: when you find a youtube video that you think isn't going to stay up very long, just copy the youtube video url into keepvid.com and it will give you a list of file formats to save it on your computer. choose the .flv format and download the free .flv player off google to play them on your computer. i have several videos that i saved because i knew were going to get torn down because of copyright infringements or sensitive subjects like this accident.

This is part of the heartache of this accident. I've never really watched open wheel stuff except for some F1 events. So he wasn't well known to me. Everything I've read and heard, he was a class act. Its a tragedy to lose such a great person. My heart and prayers go out to his family, colleagues and all of those whose hearts mourn closely for Dan. Good speed

Not once did his hands leave the steering wheel through the course of that video. Kind of amazing.

That's a bad deal Was it the impact or the fire that killed him?

I don't know that anyone has given a clue to a cause of death. Most everything I've heard is unsurvivable injuries. One article I read said that he was the first to die on track since 2006, not sure if they were confirming he passed before they extricated him, or referring to injuries sustained on the track. I'm sure there will be something floating around twitter and the sports sites tomorrow after the autopsy. From that in-car video, he didn't appear to slow down, meaning he went airborne at ~220 mph.......

The video isn't Dan Wheldon, its Will Power. It looks like Wheldon's car but Wheldons car is #77 and in the video the car was #12.

Wheldon is the first to die since 2006 when Paul Dana died at Homestead in a pre race morning practice crash. Its is the 4th since 1996. Others were Greg Moore in 1999 at Fontana (California Speedway). Tony Renna died in 2003 at a test session at Indianapolis Motor Speedway after the season had ended in 2003.
