Go the little bit extra drive next time and hit Port Aransas. Always had way better luck down there.
...I remember someone posting pics on the old site of a ~8-9' Mako that he reeled-in from the beach in Corpus or PA.
EDIT: Make that a 10' Mako.....

I caught a 4' Hammerhead near Portland off of a pier. That was a mean fish.
