  • Tracking down my first car

In 1993 I repaired a swimming pool in Fort Worth for a 1949 5 window Chevy pickup, I was 16. It barely ran and needed work but it was all mine. For insurance purposes my dad put the title to the truck in his name. Fast forward to 2001 and I'm living in Boston, working and going to school. Without telling me my dad who needed the money sold my truck saying later he didn't think I liked it anyway. I didn't take it to Boston for obvious reasons and had bought a used Jeep to drive while there.

Long story short I found some paperwork the other day with the VIN and decided to start tracking it down. The county registrar will not provide the address but I know it is in Tarrant county again with antique plates on it.

The truck was white when I had it and very clean. It had the sun visor, all the trim but had some crap outdoor carpet in the bed because I couldn't afford to restore it at the time. Some of you may have even seen it back in the day because I drove it all over DFW cleaning swimming pools.

I have been a lurker on here since Canada so I have witnessed the detective work first hand. If anyone is able to provide me an address please PM me and I will provide the VIN. Thanks!

Your Dad sounds like an asshole. I would be pissed if my Dad sold something I owned, without asking me.

You didn't seem to mind him selling your ass on the street corner.

I still have a set of keys for my 30th anniversary z28. Door, ignition, and electronic fob. I always wanted to find that car and buy it back.. but im sure it's ragged out and in pain somewhere by now.

I honestly believe he thought I didn't care about the truck. I got over it. Now I just want to find that truck and see if they're interested in selling it.

I see. My parents were going to sell my datsun 510 racecar, it had been sitting in their driveway for 3years. But they "axed" me first.

My dad gave away my dog, without asking me, one day when I was out getting lunch.

Luckily they never sold any of my junk cars I've had though...

It would be easier to just post the VIN and let someone look it up. I have a publicdata account if you want me to look and see if I can find it registered anywhere.

my dad sold my 3 year old Polaris 4x4 ATV for 100 bucks while i was in my traveling years as a skydiver. The battery on it was dead and it needed the stator replaced, and an electrician that came to do some work on the house looked at it, claimed the motor was FUBAR and that he'd like to buy it as a "parts" atv. I about shit a brick when dad called and said he had 100 bucks for me for the 4 grand ATV he had just sold. never did get that ATV back but pops gave me some guns and a car and we called it even. i still harass him to this day about letting some stupid electrician con him.

An ask would have been nice but what's done is done. I had never driven a stick and my dad said "well, I'll see you at the house...", we live in Decatur and I had to drive it home from Fort Worth. It was running terrible...sputtering, hesitation, I stopped at a parts store and the guy told me to change the fuel filters so I did, in the parking lot. It ran great after that.
