in parts of europe, they dont tip. I know people there were suprised as hell us 'mericans were leaving tips.


Then again, in egypt, they expect a tip if they open a door for you.

That is a bullshit excuse in my opinion. That should be common knowledge when travelling to another country. Educate yourself a bit about where you are going, and surely a place as big as America I am sure people know to tip here....

When I travel I read up on etiquette, what to do and not to do. What is considered an insult, do you tip or not tip.

telling her she could "lose a few pounds" as a tip is really fuked up. he should have told her to walk 5 miles, 3 times a day. that would have been tip not an insult.
after all you have to be able to offer a solution along with the problem

I have left a few comments with a small tips but never called someone fat, stupid or ugly. It is usually just a comment on their current work ethic.

Was the beer there on time? Tip well, if not...lesser tip. I don't leave any advice on a damned receipt. The person is there working for a living, why do I care if they are fat or not?

See his comment was just being an ass. Give the person a few bucks for a tip. (example) Then write them you understand their tip was less inportant than the 5 cigs they smoked instead of doing her job. It might actually help them.
