According to investigators, 43-year-old Tony Bittinger, of Fort Hill, went to the residence with a weapon, approached the 38-year-old suspect and got into an argument over a woman.

STONYCREEK TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – State police are investigating after a man was killed with an arrow in Somerset County.

The incident happened at a home in the 7900-block of Lincoln Highway in Central City, Stonycreek Township, at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

“It’s a pretty quiet place,” Larry Buger, a neighbor said. “Hardly any trouble at all.”

According to investigators, 43-year-old Tony Bittinger, of Fort Hill, went to the residence with a weapon, approached the 38-year-old suspect and got into an argument over a woman.

The suspect went inside the home and came back with a compound bow and told Bittinger to leave.

As Bittinger approached the front porch of the home, the suspect fired an arrow into his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner says Bittinger died when the arrow punctured his lung and blood filled his heart.

A compound bow has a system of pulleys that provide more force with less pull. It’s normally used for hunting.

State police are sorting through statements of a half dozen witnesses – both residents of the house and relatives of the victim who say they went with him to the house.

A neighbor says she heard the argument, but it sounded like an adult arguing with a child. Bittinger’s brothers told friends he was shot as he initially approached the house.

So far, no charges have been filed.

Why is the one guy a suspect? The other dude came with a weapon first.

Charges possible in fatal shooting with compound bow
              By Paul Peirce, TRIBUNE-REVIEW

State police in Somerset haven't determined whether they will charge a Central City man with homicide in the death of a man by shooting an arrow into his chest during a confrontation on Sunday.

Tony L. Bittinger, 43, of 332 Mt. Davis Road, Fort Hill, near Confluence, was pronounced dead at the home of the shooting suspect, who lives at 7931 Lincoln Highway in Stonycreek Township. Police said the suspect is 38 years old but did not release his identity.

The incident occurred at 4:45 p.m. during a confrontation over the suspect's wife, according to a state police news release.

Bittinger lived about 40 miles from the scene of the shooting and had driven to the home to confront the man about his treatment of his wife, police said. During the verbal confrontation, the suspect allegedly went into his home, retrieved a compound bow and stepped back out onto the porch.

"As Bittinger approached the actor the second time at the front porch of the residence, the actor shot an arrow into the chest of Bittinger," police Trooper Joseph Drzal wrote in the news release.

Yesterday, state police in the Somerset station released no other details about the shooting, saying the investigation is continuing.

Neighbors in the area where the shooting took place described the suspect and his wife as a "quiet" couple who kept to themselves.

Bittinger, who has lived in the Garrett and Meyersdale areas, has a criminal record for making terroristic threats and harassment, according to Somerset County court records.

Looks like the Tribune Democrat has taken the courtesy to pass a homocide judgement on the man already (cause of death in any self defense case is homocide).

Arrow wound kills man Investigators list death as homicide

JOHNSTOWN — State police are continuing to investigate Sunday’s death of a man shot down with a compound bow at a Stonycreek Township home.

Investigators have listed the death as a homicide but have not filed charges in the incident or listed the alleged assailant of 43-year-old Tony L. Bittinger, a day after the Salisbury-area man was found dead on a Reels Corner area property.

State police said Bittinger was shot in the chest after arriving at a couple’s Lincoln Highway home to “confront” the man about how he had been treating his wife. They offered no details on why Bittinger was concerned about the couple’s relationship.

But they said Bittinger arrived with an unidentified weapon, and an argument with the 38-year-old man ensued at the home’s front porch.

Trooper Joseph Drzal wrote in a release that the man then brought his compound bow from inside his home and told Bittinger to leave his property.

                    But Bittinger refused, he added.

The man then fired an arrow at Bittinger, hitting him in the chest, investigators said.

Coroner Wallace Miller said the arrow pierced Bittinger’s chest, causing internal bleeding around the heart.

He pronounced Bittinger dead at the scene at 10:16 p.m. and has ruled the death a homicide.

Neighbors were shocked by the incident Monday.

Is there some words missing from this sentence? So a lung is punctured and it fills the heart with blood? Fucking interns...

Who would have known that having your heart fill with blood would kill you.

Anyway, maybe this was an internet dispute....
