If you use it and are looking for an efficient source of heat to replace it with, checkout a wood pellet stove. My neighbor put one of these things in his house last year and it is badass....they can damned near heat the entire house with this thing, and he says that his electric bill was cut in half through last winter when we hit those cold assed months (all electric out here where I live).

I'm considering one for my place...pretty straight forward install, they replace your existing firebox.

    His looks similar to this....

Has a trap door on the top where you add a scoop of pellets once in a while...like these....

Any/all the fireboxes installed in my houses during construction, are set at the framing stage by nailing it in 12"-14" (typically) off the slab. I always do a brick/stone hearth and mantel, so that would need to be removed in order to actually remove/replace the firebox insert. It may be possible to cut it out, but you would still need a way set the new box.

That would be an excellent option.

this is a direct vent gas fireplace. Just learned that minutes ago. because the vent just goes right out the back of the house onto my patio aka no chimney.

          god bless.

sounds like you need to measure your fireplace insert, and then head to the fire place store.
