I have a sony bravia and hate it, shoved in the bedroom for watchin when im sick or just dont care. I've got a panasonic plasma in the main room that kicks ass. I've never had a problem with it for 5 years and i wont hesitate to buy another panasonic when it comes time to replace/upgrade.

Check avsforum for when you start narrowing down models for some more in depth comparisons.

Samsung or Mistu I prefer DLP but it's not for everyone. Is this set gonna be wall mounted or on a stand?

No wall mount, just on a piece of furniture.

Samsung and Frys extended warranty plan is cheap . I paid $250 and if my kid throws a wii controller at it, it's covered ! Ask me how I know .

When I was researching tv's a few months ago all of the reviews favored Samsung.

I would also recommend Sharp - we don't see a lot of their units come through the shop. And they replaced a TV for a customer almost a year after the warranty expired. Samsung's are fine as long as they don't break, but we see a lot of them come through the shop.

It was definitely a sale. I think they were offering another 10% off of a lot of their electronics because they were remodeling, but I'm not sure if it applied to that one. They didnt have as much inventory on display as other stores. This was the store on 114 and 26. I ended up buying a cheap 42" plasma for the garage.

Don't let me steer you wrong, because I have never owned a Sharp, and I really haven't done any research on TVs in a long time. Technology changes at an insanely rapid pace. But at that size, price, and with the wifi and apps, it seemed like a great deal to me.

Fwiw, I have two Samsung plasmas that have been great. My big monster in the living room is a Mitsubishi DLP. If you never plan to wall mount your TV, consider this option. You can't beat the size to price ratio, and the picture is great as long as you replace the bulb every few years (I just did this, cost me $90 for the bulb online and took 5 minutes to change it).

That does sound good, and I wouldn't mind a little bit bigger. I think a 60 might be better for the room it's in. I'm probably going to go check that out.

With very rare exception, you will not regret going bigger. There's no replacement for displacement!

I'm not going smaller, or with older technology, and I don't need any furniture. I probably don't need the 3D either as I haven't used it once, and I'm not spending more money so that I can buy all the equipment for 3 or 4 movies.

                                Samsung.

I have a 46" LED in my room, Drew has my 'old' (got a steal on my LED from my Best Buy hookup) 40" LCD 1080p on a wall mount in his room, both are amazing TVs.
