  • Motivational? I think not...

Anyone else have a boss that just focus' on the negative and never the positive? We had a decent month at work, not great by any means and missed our goal by less than 10% and the entire month the boss was just reaming us all out, daily!

To me, being a good manager/boss does not entail instilling fear into your employees, but rather motiviating through encouragement, constructive criticism, and focusing on what we can do to improve, not hounding on the stuff that went wrong, then calling everyone lazy, worthless, and telling them that if they dont get their act together, they can find another job.

To me, if I am in the shitter already, being put down and stomped on is not going to make me want to work any harder, it's quite the opposite. I just want to sit around and do nothing to spite him.

My idea: Hey guys, last month sucked, but it was last month and it's over. No need to fester over it. This is a new month, lets pick up the pace, have some fun, and blow our goal out of the water.

Is that so hard to say?

    OK, I'm done ranting now...

There are a lot of people that have no clue how to motivate others. It can be pretty funny to see sometimes.

haha....no no, he'll do it to my face if he does. I'm too new, still "training" so I'm safe right now.

It's entertaining for sure, but it sure does get old quick!

WTF are coddled eggs? Sounds nasty...lol

how about this one, one guy where I used to work (@ cisco) was let go via email. no one happened to call or email him at his personal email.
no one locked/disabled his ad account, his badge and dc access was still valid as well, and security was not notified either. so he shows up to work and sits down at his desk and reads an email that was sent to the team stating he had been let go and to avoid contact with him.

              lazy hr!

FWIW, I had a boss that told me it's not his job to tell us when we are doing a good job; only to get on our ass when we were fucking up.

Point is, it's their job to get as much work out of you as possible (often for as little money as possible). If you don't like your boss and/or your job, then it's time to find another one... like I did!

I started my own business so I don't ever have to deal with another boss (hopefully). I know that's not an option for everyone, but if you aren't happy then fix it!!!

Nah, it could be worse.... I never get any praise or positivity, but every few weeks it's a blowout argument of negativity and constantly having to validate my actions.

If I win a deal, it's because I'm expected to. If I lose a deal (for ANY reason), then the sky is about to fall...

On the flip side, I have a HUGE territory, work from home, have a nice paycheck, and almost do what I want.

My people think I'm a prick, until they are cashing their bonus checks.

                          Funny how that works.

I had a boss like that and it was really a beating. We butted heads over a bunch if little things, he was a real prick about small details, even going so far as to send out an e-mail slamming one employee's spelling on a service ticket for out internal techs, lol. Luckily he has moved on to bother other people now.
